A Study of the Holy Spirit – WEEK FOUR

The greatest and most advantageous relationship all of us can cultivate is our relationship with God the Holy Spirit. He is the only member of the God-head that is in the earth realm. Part of His assignment with each of us is to HELP us to BE who we were created to be and DO what we are created to do.

A healthy relationship with the Holy Spirit will form a healthy marriage relationship. PLEASE THEM (spouse) BY PLEASING HIM (the Holy Spirit)

Our relationship with God the Holy Spirit is similar to our human relationships in the fact the we want to cultivate our human relationships with Love and Respect and we also want to have the same Love and Respect in our relationship with God the Holy Spirit.

Our main objective today is to learn how to live with the God the Holy Spirit on a day to day basis. (By pleasing the Holy Spirit you will also please your spouse.)

Let’s start by talking about God’s greatest purpose for creating all of us. What was in His mind concerning us? Humanity was created by God to have fellowship with God. God desired a FAMILY.

God created Adam (humanity) with three parts. A spirit that communed with God, a soul (personality) allowing Adam to respond to all of life on God’s earth, and a body to be a home to the spirit and soul that was/is perfectly adapted to the Earth’s environment.

Genesis 2:16-17 (NASB)

16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;

17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

We know that the death humanity experienced was a separation from God spiritually. Because there is NO CONNECTION with God spiritually then there is no direction coming from God to the soul (mind, will, emotions). Which meant that now all of humanity is born ruled not by God but by our souls.

Side Bar: If you in a perverse way wanted to rule the world, knowing that people were born ruled by their souls, how would you do it?

Keep them as far away from their creator as possible. Keep their SOUL occupied with people that won’t lead them back to God. Keep their SOUL occupied with distractions that take their attention away from God.

Three conditions transpire from these scenarios:

* The mind becomes hostile towards God.

* The will becomes self centered

* The emotions become filled with lust, envy, the desire to rule, anger, hatred etc.

Because of His perfect love for us, He sent Jesus on our behalf to redeem us back to Him.

Our spirit is made alive by the Holy Spirit and now we have the opportunity again to have a relationship with THE GOD.

Ephesians 4:1-3

I THEREFORE, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God’s service,

Living as becomes you] with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love one another.

Be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace.

Ephesians 4:22-32

Strip yourselves of your former nature [put off and discard your old unrenewed self] which characterized your previous manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts and desires that spring from delusion;

And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude],

And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness.

Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another.

When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.

Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].

Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.

Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).

And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.

1 Thessalonians 5:19

Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;

If we do not choose to obey the Holy Spirit, we will quench His work in our lives. The word quench means to choke the throat or in other words halt the life of God in our lives, situations, and circumstances.

Believe the Holy Spirit

Obey the Holy Spirit

Honor the Holy Spirit
